Hungarian broadband takes off

Hungary ended 2008 with 1.537 million cable and ADSL broadband internet subscribers, or 16% more than 12 months earlier, according to data published by the country’s National Communications Authority (NHH).
The total number of cable internet subscribers at the end of 2008 stood at 742,000, with the four leading operators accounting for 72% of the total.
The number of ADSL subscribers was meanwhile 795,000. Significantly, the uptake of cable internet grew by 27.4% in 2008, and ADSL by only 6.7%.
