The German cable operator KabelBW has said the number of its broadband internet customers rose last year 59% to 382,000 homes. Turnover rose 18% to €438 million, and growth is expected to continue during 2009.
“We have shown an excellent performance in 2008. Due to our high levels of investment, we now pass 3.5 million households with our fast internet offer. Not only in the big cities, but also in the countryside, our customers receive the full bandwidth of 32 Mbps, ” said Klaus Thiemann, CEO of Kabel BW, in a statement.
The operator improved EBITDA 30% to reach €190 million; investments in the network totaled €72 million in 2008, as compared to €157 million the previous year.
At the moment, 17.5% of all TV customer also take broadband and/or telephony services from the cabler – “the highest percentage of all German cable operators”, claims KabelBW.
The company will launch a pilot region this year offering high speed internet access at 50 Mbps. There will also be a number of TV pilots, including “timeshift television”.
