The Swedish radio and television authority (RTVV) has announced the lucky channels that have been selected to broadcast on the country’s sixth digital terrestrial multiplex. Eight national channels and nine local channels have been awarded licences that will run for a period of six years from April 1, 2008.
Familiar names receiving the national licences are Viacom’s Comedy Central; Discovery Science, Jetix, National Geographic Channel, Showtime, TV4 Sport, TV1000 and Viasat Sport 1.
The local channels are 24 Västra Östergötland (Västra Östergötland); 24Norrbotten (Norrbotten); 24nt (Östra Östergötland); BTTV, Borås Tidning TV (Borås); Kanal 12 (Karlstad, Sunne, Filipstad); Kanal Lokal Dalarna Värmland (Dalarna, Gävleborg); Kanal Lokal Norrland (Jämtland, Norrbotten, Västernorrland); Kanal Lokal Småland (Småland, Blekinge) and ST TV (Västernorrland)
Eighty-seven channels from national and international broadcasters had applied for the licences, which A seventh multiplex, operating on the VHF band and expected to include a number of HD channels, will be licensed next year.
