Modern Times Group’s Andrew Barron is to become Virgin Media’s new managing director of strategy.
Barron joined MTG in 2002 as CEO of Viasat Broadcasting, masterminding the DTH platform’s switch in conditional access systems, before becoming COO of the parent group. Prior to MTG he ran UPC Media’s fledgling video on demand business and developed Disney Channel’s European operations.
Neil Berkett, himself recently confirmed in the CEO chair said he was delighted someone of Barron’s experience and acumen was joining the cablenet. “Virgin Media has some important natural advantages that we are determined to exploit in order to grow our business and deliver a genuinely differentiated proposition that meets consumers’ changing expectations. Andrew’s experience will be invaluable in helping us meet this challenge.”
Further senior appointments are expected in the next few weeks.
