Scripps Networks Interactive has confirmed it has reached agreement to purchase Virgin Media’s 50% holding in UKTV, Britain’s second largest provider of multichannel television services.
Emma Tennant has been appointed as controller of UKTV, taking on responsibilities for the company’s portfolio of ten channels and multiplatform activities.
UKTV, the UK’s second biggest pay-TV broadcaster, has agreed to place its content on the Sky Anytime+ pull VOD service.
UKTV has said high definition versions of its Good Food and Eden channels will launch shortly on the Sky platform.
Virgin Media is ready to complete its withdrawal from the content business by placing its 50% interest in UKTV for sale. Its partner in the business is BBC Worldwide, the corporation’s commercial arm.
