Swisscom is finding success for its IPTV product in its domestic market, but its investment in the Italian broadband provider Fastweb is less sound.
Swisscom has said it added 126,000 new IPTV customers during the first nine months of the year. The number of Swisscom TV customers almost doubled in the space of a year to 358,000 at the end of September 2010.
Swisscom TV came close to doubling its IPTV subscribers in the 12 months, growing its installed base by 92.1% to 317,000.
The number of subscribers to the Swisscom TV IPTV service almost doubled in the 12 months to March 31. The 97.8% rise took subscriber numbers to the former Bluewin-branded service from 139,000 to 275,000 at the end of the period.
Swisscom TV air has become the new mobile TV product from the Swiss incumbent, replacing its previous DVB-H service.
IPTV service Swisscom TV closed 2009 on 230,118 subscribers, an increase of 94.9% over the 12-month period. The former Bluewin had passed the 200,000 mark in November.
Bluewin TV is to rebrand as Swisscom TV, the Bern-based telco has announced.
Swisscom’s IPTV network Bluewin added another 21,000 subscribers in the September quarter.
