A number of ITV regions that have been continuing to broadcast in standard definition are moving to high definition.
ITV is to run regional versions of its recently relaunched HD channel. Ofcom has issued the broadcaster with six separate licences that will offer combined regional advertising windows and content.
ITV1 HD is to make itself available to both Sky and Virgin households from April 2. The decision means Freesat will lose its satellite exclusivity on the channel as the commercial channel also extends its presence through the terrestrial Freeview HD.
The BBC has given details of the timetable for the rollout of high definition signals on the terrestrial transmission network.
