The number of US households who receive their television from one of the major service providers has fallen below 75 million.
The latest issue of the informitv Multiscreen Index of 100 leading pay television service providers worldwide shows a total quarterly increase of 3.45 million subscribers, up by 0.80% over the third quarter of 2016, compared to 3.74 million or 0.95% a year previously.
The worldwide number of pay television subscribers reported by the Informitv Multiscreen Index rose by 6.90 million or 1.68% in the first quarter of 2016.
The six leading pay-TV operators in the United States maintained their subscriber levels in the first quarter of 2016.
The worldwide television subscriber base increased by close to four million in the second quarter of 2015.
The leading pay-TV services added a further 5.11 million subscribers in the last quarter of 2014, a rise of 1.42%.
