German football fans can now enjoy live coverage of the Bundesliga on their iPhone.
Kabel BW is adding two more HD channels to its line-up, Super RTL HD and Sky Atlantic HD, bringing the total of HD channels on the network to 43.
Turner Broadcasting’s female skewed channel Glitz is also launching on Liberty Global’s German nets Kabel BW and Unitymedia. In May, Deutsche Telekom’s IPTV service Entertain will also add the channel to its line-up.
Sky D has secured the live rights to all Bundesliga games at the expense of Deutsche Telekom, which has lost its IPTV rights. On average Sky will pay a licence fee of €485.7 million per season.
The German football association DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) has opened a second bidding round for 19 packages of broadcast rights to its games.
“Our newly launched Entertain via Satellite had a great start, with already 50,000 subscriptions sold in the first month, in September alone,” said Deutsche Telekom CEO René Obermann during an investor call last Friday. The operator also hinted it might bid for all Bundesliga rights.
German football clubs are contemplating the idea of setting up their own dedicated channel rather than be dependent on third parties such as Sky Deutschland. “The clubs are strong enough to launch an autonomous Bundesliga TV channel.
