UPC Polska has completed the sale of part of Aster’s infrastructure to the alternative carrier Netia.
UPC Polska has entered into an agreement with the alternative telco Netia under which it will sell the latter some of the infrastructure it acquired from Aster, at one time Poland’s fourth largest cable operator.
The Polish cable operator Aster has legally become part of UPC Polska.
PIKE 2011 – POZNAN. UPC Polska president Simon Boyd has criticised the competition authority UOKiK’s view of what constitutes competition in the Polish market in the light of the recent acquisition of Aster by the Liberty Global-owned cable operator.
UPC Polska will formally take over Aster’s operations in the first quarter of next year, according to Simon Boyd, the president of the Liberty Global-owned company.
Liberty Global has announced that it has completed the acquisition of a 100% stake in Aster, hitherto Poland’s fourth largest cable operator, from Mid Europa Partners.
The Polish incumbent telco TPSA may acquire part of Aster’s cable network, which is now owned by UPC Polska.
Liberty Global is not planning any further acquisitions in Poland once it completes the take-over of Aster, the country’s fourth largest cable operator.
A decision on whether or not Liberty Global will be allowed to take over the Polish cable operator Aster is still several weeks away, according to Malgorzata Krasnodebska-Tomkiel, the president of the country’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK).
The Polish cable operator Aster is currently in talks to acquire telcos with business clients even though itself on the verge of being taken over by Liberty Global.
