Backbone: A larger transmission line that carries data gathered from smaller lines that interconnect with it.
Bandwidth: Transmission capacity of a network system. Bandwidth is usually defined in bits per second, usually described as either ‘large’ (broadband) or ‘small’ (narrowband).
Basic cable: A ‘basic’ cable service agreement provides a fixed amount of TV and radio channels to customers at a monthly fee. This does not include extra ‘pay’ services.
Branded block: A sequence of programmes within a broadcaster’s schedule that is clearly identified as another channel. For example Noggin, as shown on Nickelodeon in the UK. The Noggin brand runs as a separate channel in the United States.
BTTH: Broadband to the Home
Bps or Bit/s (Bits Per Second): A measurement of how fast data is moved from one place to another.
Broadband: The actual threshold of broadband is often subjective, according to the context and the technology involved. It implies transmitting at higher speeds than have been common for some time.
