Gábor Mátrai is Director of Government and External Relations for UPC Hungary. He has been with UPC since March 2000, after leaving First Hungary Fund, the largest venture capital fund in Hungary.
Mátrai started his career in Budapest, Hungary as a financial analyst for the leading Hungarian commercial bank. After that he joined Sandoz AG as CFO of its Hungarian operations. From 1993 to 2000 he worked as Investment Director of venture capital funds (Hungarian-American Enterprise Fund, First Hungary Fund). During this time Mátrai was responsible for the IT and Telecommunication investments, mergers and acqusitions in Hungary and in the region.
In 1998 he represented Kábeltel’s investor in the merger of Kábelkom and Kábeltel and after establishment of the regional operation he joined UPC as Business Development Director and took a leading role in the regional acqusitions. His analytical skills in deal generation; due diligences and business valuations has been an outstanding contribution to UPC’s regional expansion. From 2004 he took over his current position and also responsible for the cable acquisitions.
Mátrai lives in Budakalász with his wife Szilvia and 10-year-old twins. Since he was a professional soccer player he likes sport and also the poems. He is fluent in French & English.
