BFBS has selected Synamedia as its strategic technology partner to deliver a next-generation digital platform for the UK Armed Forces.
The appointment follows an international tender launched in February 2025 and comes shortly after the Ministry of Defence renewed BFBS’ contract for a further 10 years.
The new platform, currently working under the title The Hub, will be rolled out in phases and is intended to consolidate BFBS services into a single secure digital experience.
It will support personalised access across multiple devices, introduce new content formats beyond traditional broadcasting and provide a modern OTT-style service for personnel and families wherever they are serving.
BFBS said Synamedia was chosen following detailed technical evaluation and industry consultation, supported by digital transformation specialists Spicy Mango.
Ben Chapman, CEO of BFBS, described the project as “a defining moment” in the organisation’s evolution, saying it would allow BFBS to deliver trusted media experiences securely to ships, bases and remote locations worldwide.
Paul Segre, CEO of Synamedia, said the company’s cloud-native technologies, streaming and content delivery capabilities, security expertise and professional services were suited to the complexity of the transformation.
The project marks one of the most significant technology changes in BFBS’ more than 80-year history.
