Bitmovin has been chosen as the new cloud‑based VOD encoding partner for global film platform MUBI, replacing the service’s legacy on‑premises infrastructure as it scales its streaming operations.
The Austrian streaming technology provider will supply a managed cloud encoding service that supports 3‑pass encoding, UHD and a multi‑codec workflow including AVC, HEVC and AV1. According to both companies, the move is designed to deliver higher film‑grade quality and faster turnaround times as MUBI continues to expand its curated catalogue.
Both companies completed the migration ahead of the shutdown of MUBI’s previous infrastructure, with encoding workflows fully transferred to the cloud service without disrupting catalogue delivery.
Andy Dust, CTO at MUBI, said: “At MUBI, every film we deliver deserves the highest possible quality. We needed an encoding partner who could match our ambitions, not just for today’s catalogue, but for where we’re taking our platform. Bitmovin’s HDR and AV1 expertise, fast response times and collaborative approach made the decision straightforward. We’re excited to build our next chapter of premium content delivery together.”
Ian Baglow, Co-CEO, Bitmovin, added: “With its carefully curated catalogue of film content, MUBI brings quality cinema to film lovers globally. Bitmovin’s VOD encoder delivers outstanding quality of experience as well as multi-codec streaming support, so is well positioned to support MUBI in this endeavour.”
