The Royal Television Society has appointed Sophie Jones as its new chief executive, succeeding Theresa Wise later this year.
Jones joins from the BPI, where she is chief strategy officer, overseeing public affairs, communications, music exports, member services, innovation and insights. She previously held senior corporate affairs and communications roles at Channel 4, ITV and ITN.
At Channel 4, Jones worked on public affairs and communications campaigns, including the broadcaster’s 4 All the UK regional strategy, as well as inclusion and diversity initiatives.
As RTS CEO, she will oversee the society’s education work, awards, conventions, national and regional centres and membership community.
Jane Turton, chair of the RTS Board of Trustees, said Jones’ experience across production and broadcasting would help the organisation adapt to a rapidly changing media landscape, while continuing to support new talent and champion excellence.
Jones said it was a privilege to lead the RTS into its next phase, praising the society’s work in career development, industry insight, the Nations and regions, and its television awards.
Wise has led the RTS since 2013.
