British Forces Broadcasting Service has signed a new 10-year contract with the Ministry of Defence to provide media and entertainment services to UK Armed Forces personnel worldwide.
The agreement will support access to trusted news, entertainment and sport for service personnel and their families, including those deployed overseas and in remote operational environments.
BFBS said it is developing a next-generation secure platform to modernise and futureproof its media services, while also working on technology to deliver digital content directly to submarines.
Chief executive Ben Chapman said the renewed partnership comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tension and disruption in the media landscape. “BFBS plays a vital role in supporting the operational readiness and welfare of our military wherever they are serving, and we help to maintain a healthy democracy by ensuring that all those who serve our country have access to trusted, relevant, and secure media.”
The organisation already operates Forces News, whose YouTube channel has more than 1 million subscribers, and launched the BFBS Esports Pro League in 2025 to support gaming culture within the Armed Forces.
Maj Gen (Ret’d) Chris Wilson, chair of trustees at BFBS, said the service supports morale, retention and national security through entertainment, sport, news and training initiatives.
Defence readiness and industry minister Luke Pollard said the contract renewal demonstrates a long-term commitment to service personnel, ensuring media access remains relevant to their devices, interests and needs wherever they serve.
BFBS provides up to 16 core channels on the BFBS set top box, and 30+ channels live and on demand on the BFBS TV Player for those based overseas. The BFBS MiPlayer platform delivers media and entertainment to disconnected environments where there is no internet.
