Sky News is launching a new flagship evening programme fronted by Cathy Newman, as part of its push towards a more personality-led, multi-platform news offer.
The Cathy Newman Show will debut on April 27 and air from 7pm Monday to Thursday across Sky News, YouTube and digital platforms. It will replace the current Politics Hub and will place Newman head to head with her former colleagues on Channel 4 News.
Presented from Sky News’ Westminster studio, the programme will combine political journalism, major interviews, debate and exclusive investigations in what the broadcaster describes as a warmer, more conversational format.
Sky said the show will focus on leading political, public and cultural figures, alongside analysis of major UK, US and European stories and discussion with voices from Westminster and beyond.
The set will centre on an orange velvet sofa and armchair, with the format designed to allow for longer, uninterrupted conversations.
Cathy Newman said the timing felt right ahead of the local elections and that she was looking forward to welcoming guests for “big interviews, exclusives and real conversations that help make sense of it all”.
The launch will also be supported by longer-form investigations and documentaries, with a dedicated podcast due to follow later in the year.
Jonathan Levy, executive editor and managing director of Sky News, said the programme is central to the broadcaster’s plans to evolve its evening output, describing Newman’s journalism as “forensic, fearless and engaging”.
The show forms part of Sky News’ wider 2030 strategy, which is focused on premium, video-first journalism distributed across multiple platforms.
