Synamedia launches Senza Ignite for legacy TV devices

April 8, 2026 13.06 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Synamedia has introduced Senza Ignite, a cloud-based platform designed to modernise deployed smart TVs and set-top boxes through a single firmware update.

The new offer is aimed at enterprise customers and video operators with large installed device bases, allowing them to move the user experience into the cloud while retaining the existing capabilities of the hardware already in the field.

According to Synamedia, Senza Ignite enables operators to deliver a centrally managed cloud-rendered TV interface that can be updated continuously without the need to replace devices. The approach is intended to reduce capital expenditure, extend hardware lifecycles and speed up the launch of new services.

The platform also allows customers to use web-based development tools and existing web teams rather than relying on specialist TV developers, which Synamedia says will help accelerate time to market.

Senza Ignite maintains access to native device functions, making it possible to switch between a cloud-based home screen, third-party streaming apps and broadcast channels. This means operators can continue to use onboard features such as broadcast reception and high-quality video playback, while layering new cloud-driven experiences on top.

By shifting processing demands away from the device, Synamedia said Senza Ignite overcomes the performance limitations of older TVs and set-top boxes, opening the way for more personalised interfaces, advanced graphics and AI-enabled features.

Dr Tzvi Gerstl, EVP at Synamedia, said the platform gives businesses without dedicated video engineering teams access to web, GPU and AI-driven services on a wide range of devices. He added that Synamedia is also working with TV and set-top manufacturers to broaden support for the platform across deployed hardware.

Synamedia said Senza Ignite changes the economics of TV service delivery by removing the need for device replacement and reducing costs linked to hardware fragmentation, platform maintenance and traditional commercial barriers such as ad revenue shares.

The company will demonstrate Senza Ignite for the first time at NAB Show, taking place from April 18 to 20, 2026.
