CityFibre has launched an 8.5 Gbps wholesale broadband product across its nationwide full fibre network, extending multi-gigabit connectivity to millions of UK homes and businesses.
The new offer is the latest step in the rollout of CityFibre’s 10 Gbps-capable XGS-PON network and will be available to all ISP partners from April 21.
CityFibre said the service will deliver speeds of up to 8.5 Gbps, allowing providers on its network to introduce higher-capacity services for residential and business customers. The company’s footprint currently passes more than 4.7 million premises and it continues to target coverage of over 8 million.
The wholesale operator said it is already deploying 10 Gbps optical network terminals for new customer installations, giving partners a platform to launch future-ready broadband propositions.
Simon Holden, chief executive of CityFibre, said the company’s network was setting a new benchmark for connectivity across consumer, business, mobile and public sector markets.
CityFibre added that customer demand continues to grow strongly, with more than 30,000 net additions each month as it approaches the milestone of 1 million customers. It also said that in recent months around 70% of households switching broadband provider in areas served by CityFibre had moved onto its network.
