Austrian broadcaster ServusTV is withdrawing its top sports coverage from local streaming platform Joyn and shifting its premium rights fully to its own service ServusTV On.
According to a report by Austrian newspaper Kurier, ServusTV is restructuring its digital strategy to maximise exclusivity as it faces growing pressure on Austria’s advertising market.
The move ends the parallel streaming of major events such as Formula 1 and MotoGP on Joyn, the platform operated by ProSiebenSat.1 Puls4. During the previous season, both racing series were still available live on Joyn via the ServusTV stream. Now, Joyn users will see only a redirect to ServusTV On.
ServusTV confirmed that all major sports properties will in future be available exclusively on its own platform. “Premium sports rights such as Formula 1, MotoGP, UEFA club competitions, the FIFA World Cup 2026, UEFA Euro 2028, Grand Slam tennis tournaments and other premium formats will in future be live and on demand exclusively on our streaming platform ServusTV On,” the broadcaster told Kurier, that it aims to strengthen its digital presence and expand reach by concentrating high‑value content on its own service.
The shift comes as Austrian broadcasters face shrinking advertising budgets, with billions flowing instead to global tech platforms. This has made it increasingly difficult to refinance expensive sports rights, intensifying competition and sharpening the tone in the domestic media market.
ProSiebenSat.1 Puls4 confirmed the new arrangement: “Our agreement with ServusTV stipulates that from 1 January 2026, for defined formats such as ServusTV’s premium sports events, the live signal will be replaced. This will be clearly indicated to users.”
ServusTV’s on‑demand library will remain available on Joyn, but without premium sports.
