Channel21 has confirmed that preliminary insolvency proceedings have been opened against the German teleshopping broadcaster, with the District Court of Hanover appointing a provisional administrator.
According to the company, Channel21 GmbH filed for the opening of preliminary insolvency proceedings earlier this week. The court followed the request on 23 March and appointed lawyer Dr Stefanie Zulauf as provisional insolvency administrator. From now on, major decisions at the broadcaster require her approval, and creditors have been instructed to make payments only in line with the court’s order.
The move was prompted by a challenging market environment and changing structural conditions in the teleshopping sector, Channel21 said in a statement. Despite the filing, the broadcaster stressed that day‑to‑day operations remain unaffected. Orders, deliveries and services continue as usual, according to Channel21, adding that customers currently face no changes to ordering or delivery processes.
Management is working closely with the provisional administrator on a restructuring concept aimed at stabilising the business and safeguarding jobs.
Channel21, headquartered in Hanover, is Germany’s third‑largest teleshopping channel. Launched in 2001 as RTL Shop, it underwent several ownership changes before being rebranded as Channel21 in 2008. The broadcaster distributes mainly own‑brand products across beauty, health, jewellery, household and kitchen categories, reaching around 95% of German TV households via satellite, cable and DTT.
