Deutsche TV‑Plattform (DTVP) has released the first DVB‑I Implementation Profile for Germany, marking a significant step towards the market introduction of DVB‑I services in the country.
According to the industry organisation, the document is the result of a two‑year development process led by the DTVP Task Force DVB‑I under the Chairmanship of Frank Heineberg (RTL Deutschland) and Remo Vogel (rbb/ARD), working in close cooperation with the industry forum Round Table DVB‑I.
DVB‑I is an open standard designed to make linear television available seamlessly over IP networks without requiring a dedicated app. It also supports the intelligent integration of non‑linear and VOD services, positioning it as a key technology for the transformation of the TV market towards IP-based media delivery.
The new Implementation Profile covers a wide range of technical areas, including DVB‑I and HbbTV specifications, reception technologies, DVB‑I metadata, pop‑up channels, regionalisation of service lists and accessibility features. It also includes test cases intended to help device manufacturers verify interoperability of DVB‑I receivers for the German market.
The profile is published as a standalone document and is intended to serve as an annex to the planned “DVB‑I Book Germany” (working title) being prepared by the Round Table DVB‑I.
