The DVB Project has published a new white paper offering a non-technical introduction to DVB-I, aimed at business leaders, policymakers and media industry advisers.
The document is intended to explain the standard in accessible terms without the technical depth of the formal specification.
DVB said the paper sets out DVB-I as a delivery-agnostic, open standard for describing and discovering television services, while also making clear that it is not a user interface, a platform or a regulatory architecture. It also outlines the benefits of DVB-I for different stakeholder groups and highlights early deployments in Europe.
According to DVB, the white paper was developed after the DVB-I Implementers Task Force identified a need for a clearer explainer aimed at decision-makers across broadcasting, regulation, consumer electronics and platform operations. The task force itself was created following an unconference session at DVB World 2025, with the work then taken forward under DVB’s Promotion & Communications Module.
DVB-I is expected to be a core topic at DVB World 2026, which takes place in Amsterdam on March 17-18 at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre. DVB has already flagged DVB-I in the event programme, including a session linked to its recent DVB-I user interface competition.
