Disney+ has reinstated HDR10 support for premium subscribers after temporarily removing all HDR formats from the platform.
The streamer confirmed that HDR10 is once again available, following weeks in which Dolby Vision and HDR10 were withdrawn. During that period, subscribers on the higher-priced tier were unable to view content in high dynamic range, one of the key features of the premium offering.
Disney said the removal was linked to legal proceedings before a German patent court, which required changes to the availability of certain premium video formats. The company said it regretted the disruption and had worked to restore services as quickly as possible.
The move follows a ruling last November by the Munich Regional Court in a dispute involving US technology company InterDigital. The court found that Disney+ infringed InterDigital’s rights when streaming video with dynamic HDR and issued a preliminary injunction, according to InterDigital.
While HDR10 has now returned, Dolby Vision remains unavailable on Disney+. The company has not indicated if or when those advanced HDR formats will be reinstated.
