RTL Deutschland seals Sony Pictures deal for RTL+ and Free-TV

February 26, 2026 11.50 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

RTL Deutschland has signed a new agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment Deutschland, securing a major package of Sony films for both the German broadcaster’s streaming service RTL+ and its free‑TV channels.

The deal, which expands their long‑standing partnership, covers the Second Pay Window, further strengthening RTL+’s position in the streaming market.

The agreement grants RTL+ early and exclusive streaming access to a slate of high‑profile Sony titles, including Venom: The Last Dance, Kraven the Hunter, Karate Kid: Legends and 28 Years Later, the new instalment from Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.

RTL+ will also receive rights to selected franchise back‑catalogue titles. Fans of the 28 Days Later series and the Venom universe will be able to stream earlier films for a limited period, offering a more complete lead‑in to the new releases.

The agreement also brings a wide range of Sony films to RTL Deutschland’s linear free-TV channels. The package includes the full Hotel Transsilvanien series – including Hotel Transsilvanien 4 – Eine Monster Verwandlung – as well as audience favourites such as Passengers and Arrival.

“With this comprehensive agreement, we are strengthening our long-standing and successful partnership with Sony Pictures and securing some of the biggest and most sought-after film franchises of the coming years. Exclusive and early availability is exactly what our users expect from RTL+ – and what we are once again delivering with this deal,” said Andreas Fischer, Chief Operating Officer at RTL Deutschland.

Holly Comiskey, SVP Country Manager, Distribution & Networks, UK & GSA at Sony Pictures, added: “This agreement reflects the strength and ongoing development of our collaboration with RTL Deutschland. From major current cinema highlights to iconic franchises, we are delighted to offer viewers first‑class entertainment exactly when they want it – whether on RTL+ or on free‑to‑air television.”
