TDF has begun a major modernisation of its broadcasting facilities located in the basement of the Eiffel Tower, replacing the 12 digital terrestrial television (DTT) transmitters housed in its technical building.
Work started over the winter and will be carried out in phases through to summer 2026. Alongside the transmitter swap-out, TDF is also modernising the associated hydraulic cooling system and installing equipment designed to meet the latest technological and environmental standards.
The operator said the project is intended to improve site performance while reducing its energy footprint, with the new transmitters delivering a 45% reduction in energy consumption linked to broadcasting from the Eiffel Tower.
TDF said the Eiffel Tower remains a key transmission site for the Île-de-France region, providing DTT and radio services to nearly 12 million people.
