Dotscreen secures multi-year renewal for Freenet TV HbbTV portal

February 2, 2026 07.33 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

German DTT network operator Media Broadcast has renewed its multi-year partnership with French service provider Dotscreen to continue the evolution, support and maintenance of the Freenet TV HbbTV portal.

Under the renewed agreement, Dotscreen will remain responsible for the HbbTV front end and associated backend of Freenet TV, a role it has held since the service launched in 2016.

Germany’s nationwide connected-TV gateway for DTT viewers aggregates a broad range of services for connected households, including catch-up and interactive apps from major German broadcasters, text and video news, sports updates, national and local radio stations and real-time weather information.

The extension continues a long-standing collaboration between Dotscreen and Media Broadcast, which has previously been renewed on multiple occasions, most recently in 2024 and in 2021.

The portal underlines Media Broadcast’s strategy of using HbbTV to enrich the free-to-air DTT experience with hybrid services accessible to connected receivers compliant with the open standard, without requiring a separate app store or platform login.

According to Dotscreen, Media Broadcast’s renewed trust highlights the company’s long-standing leadership in HbbTV solutions, deployed today across multiple European markets.
