Vodafone is accelerating upload speeds across its cable fibre network in Germany, unlocking up to 50% faster uploads for around 24 million households from early February.
The upgrade, branded as an “upload booster”, will be activated nationwide and is designed to improve performance for applications such as video conferencing, cloud storage and social media uploads. Vodafone says the move strengthens what it describes as the largest gigabit network in the country.
“Cable fibre is getting stronger,” said Marcel de Groot, CEO of Vodafone Germany. “At the beginning of February, we will activate the upload booster in the largest gigabit network in the republic. This brings up to 50% more speed to 70% of households in Germany in the upload.”
Technically, the change increases maximum upload speeds on Vodafone’s cable network from 50 Mbit/s to up to 75 Mbit/s for private customers, excluding limited pilot areas that previously tested higher speeds. Vodafone says the higher upload rates will be available to households using compatible DOCSIS 3.1 routers.
The upload boost is based on DOCSIS 3.1 Low Split technology, which reallocates and expands the frequency range used for upstream data transmission in cable networks. Vodafone says the rollout will be supported by continued network reinforcement to ensure download performance is not affected.
Alongside the upload upgrade, Vodafone is introducing revised cable tariffs from 29 January. New customers will be able to access higher download speeds at existing base prices, with increases of 50 Mbit/s on GigaZuhause 150 Kabel and GigaZuhause 300 Kabel, and an additional 100 Mbit/s on GigaZuhause 600 Kabel. A new GigaZuhause 800 Kabel tier is also being introduced, positioned between the 600 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s packages. The entry-level GigaZuhause 50 Kabel tariff remains unchanged at 50 Mbit/s download and 25 Mbit/s upload.
Vodafone said the changes help align the performance of its cable fibre network more closely with full fibre infrastructure, while maintaining price stability for consumers. The faster upload speeds will be included automatically with the new tariffs when they become available.
To support the increased capacity, Vodafone has continued to invest in network modernisation. During 2025, the operator carried out upgrade work at around 2,500 locations, adding additional network segments and expanding fibre deeper into the network. Vodafone says this has increased bandwidth and capacity for hundreds of thousands of connections.
The company positions the upgrade as part of a broader strategy to reinforce cable as a competitive gigabit platform alongside fibre-to-the-home deployments.
