Sky News has appointed Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman to front a new flagship daily politics programme in the 7pm slot, as part of its Sky News 2030 strategy.
Newman, who also presents for Times Radio, will join the newsroom “in the coming months”, with further programme and launch details to be confirmed later this year.
Alongside the new 7pm programme, Newman will present a new podcast and work on long-form investigations and documentaries, with Sky positioning the role as fully cross-platform across TV, digital and social.
Sky said Newman brings nearly 2 decades of political and investigative experience, including reporting at Channel 4 News and an earlier stint writing for the Financial Times. Sky added that her investigative work will be a key part of the evolution of the 7pm slot, alongside its long-form documentary unit Full Story Films.
Newman said “there couldn’t be a more exhilarating time to return to Westminster”, while Sky News Executive Chairman David Rhodes said she “brings a clear, engaging style that audiences trust”.
Newman will go head to head with her Channel 4 News colleagues. The ITN-produced programme is also broadcast at 7pm. Sky’s current 7pm show Politics Hub was presented by Sophie Ridge before her move to breakfast late last year.
