Global Player launches native in-car app for BMW and MINI

January 14, 2026 11.03 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Global Player, the radio and podcast platform operated by Global, has launched a native in-car app for BMW and MINI vehicles in the UK, making the service available directly through the manufacturers’ built-in infotainment systems for the first time.

The rollout, delivered in partnership with BMW Group UK, allows drivers of compatible BMW and MINI models to download the Global Player app from the vehicle’s own app store, removing the need to connect a smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The app runs natively within the vehicle’s infotainment environment.

Drivers can use the app to live-stream Global’s radio stations, rewind and catch up on programmes, and browse podcasts and playlists using the car’s on-board controls. A single sign-in enables access to personalised content and allows listening to continue seamlessly between devices at home, at work and in the car.

More than 180,000 BMW and MINI vehicles currently on UK roads support the native Global Player app. That figure is expected to rise above 300,000 by the end of 2026, as additional models become compatible, including the new BMW iX3 running BMW Operating System X and future Neue Klasse vehicles.

“We’re excited to offer BMW and MINI customers enhanced connectivity through the new Global Player in-car app, allowing them to enjoy their most loved music, news and podcasts with ease,” said Chris Hollis, BMW Group Customer Digital Applications Manager. “This latest addition complements the wide variety of apps already available for customers and further strengthens our seamless in-car entertainment experience.”

Stephen Toombs, Head of In-Car Distribution for Global Player at Global, added: “This partnership with BMW Group UK is part of our ambition to make Global Player available everywhere our audiences are. We know that in-car listening plays an important role in people’s daily routines, so we want to make finding the audio they love as easy as possible.”

The Global Player app is available via the BMW and MINI third-party app stores for vehicles running Operating System 9 or newer. Access to the app store requires an active Digital Premium subscription, while the Global Player app itself is free to download.
