Big Blue Marble has struck a strategic partnership with HISPlayer to deliver end-to-end, DRM-protected video streaming for immersive XR use cases across mobile, PC and VR/AR headsets.
The joint proposition combines Big Blue Marble’s Cloud Video Kit for live and on-demand processing with its Cloud DRM multi-DRM protection service, alongside HISPlayer’s playback technology for Unity, Unreal Engine and the Meta Spatial SDK. The companies say the integration will allow broadcasters, content owners, telcos and sports platforms to bring premium video into XR environments without changing their existing headend.
The pair want the solution to be an enabler for rights-managed content in XR, where many experiences still rely on demo footage because protected programming cannot be deployed securely. Features cited include Widevine DRM Level 1 playback on Meta Quest, support for up to 8K video, multi-camera and multi-angle viewing, interactive ad formats designed for 3D environments, dynamic lighting and VFX enhancements, and spatial audio.
Dawid Gorniak, Product Owner for Cloud Video Kit and Cloud DRM at Big Blue Marble, said the partnership is aimed at making immersive deployments viable at scale by applying streaming-grade security to XR. HISPlayer CEO Carlos Lucas added the deal creates a turnkey offer combining DRM protection, XR playback and broadcast delivery expertise.
