Mainstream Media and ZDF Studios extend content partnership

January 12, 2026 10.05 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German media company Mainstream Media and ZDF Studios have extended their long-standing partnership, signing a new multi-year agreement that will continue to supply pay-TV channels Heimatkanal and Romance TV with fiction series and TV movies from the ZDF Studios catalogue.

Under the renewed deal, both channels will retain access to a broad slate of well-known and high-rating brands that have formed the backbone of their schedules for years. The agreement reinforces the strategic collaboration with ZDF Studios, the commercial subsidiary of German public broadcaster ZDF, providing long-term programming security for Mainstream Media’s fiction-focused services.

For Romance TV, the partnership will continue to cover popular romantic and family-oriented franchises including Inga Lindström, Rosamunde Pilcher, Lena Lorenz, Kreuzfahrt ins Glück and Das Traumschiff. Heimatkanal will maintain its line-up of classic German series such as Die Schwarzwaldklinik, Diese Drombuschs, Der Bergdoktor, Da kommt Kalle and Die Bergretter.

“The extension of our cooperation with ZDF Studios is a key building block of our long-term programming strategy,” said Tim Werner, CEO of Mainstream Media. “Strong brands and high-quality fiction content have formed the foundation of Heimatkanal and Romance TV for many years. Together, we will continue offering our audiences reliability, quality and emotionally engaging stories.”

Tim Gerhartz, Chief Commercial Officer of ZDF Studios, added: “We have enjoyed a relationship of trust with Mainstream Media for many years. This extension sends a clear signal of continuity and quality. We look forward to continuing to delight the fans of Heimatkanal and Romance TV with popular brands and heartfelt storytelling.”
