Channel 4 grows streaming by 14%

December 22, 2025 12.13 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Channel 4 has published a year-end snapshot of what it calls the UK’s “Altogether Different” viewing habits, as it reported fresh streaming milestones for 2025 and pointed to a slate of genre launches that helped drive growth.

The broadcaster said viewer minutes on Channel 4 streaming reached 69 billion year-to-date, up 14% year on year, as it continues its shift towards becoming a digital-first public service streamer.

The roundup leans into seasonal and binge-viewing behaviour. Channel 4 said 87 million minutes of Christmas programming were streamed in November alone, with titles cited including Home Alone, Father Christmas and Terry Pratchett’s The Abominable Snow Baby. London was the earliest region for festive streaming in November with 16 million minutes, followed by the North West and the East of England on 9 million minutes each.

In one of the more unusual data points, Channel 4 said 80 people streamed The Snowman on the hottest day of the year, when temperatures reached 35.8C on 1 July. The broadcaster also linked a winter lift for A Place in the Sun, saying November delivered the show’s highest monthly streaming performance of the year with 2.14 million views.

Channel 4 also cited “fun facts” from individual viewing, including one viewer streaming 25 episodes of Married at First Sight UK back-to-back, while estimating that the time spent watching The Great British Bake Off equated to “206 million Victoria Sponges” in baking terms.

On broader performance, Channel 4 said its total audience (all individuals) rose 2%, with share of 16–34 viewing up 1% and ABC1 share up 6%.

The company also used the update to highlight content performance across genres. Channel 4 said Virgin Island was its biggest launch for young audiences in more than 20 years; Game of Wool was its biggest format launch since The Jury; Bonnie Blue: 1000 Men and Me was its most streamed documentary ever; Patience was its highest drama debut since It’s a Sin; and Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping delivered its largest comedy launch since 2018.
