Canal+ has reached a settlement with the French tax authorities over the VAT rate applied to its television subscription services, ending a long-running dispute that has sat over the group as it accelerates its international pay-TV and streaming strategy.
In a regulatory statement, the company said the agreement follows clarifications published by the tax authorities in September 2025 and joint work on the definition and operational terms of catch-up television at Canal+. Canal+ said the outcome confirms that VAT applies at a reduced rate on its TV subscription services.
The group has committed to a total of €363 million, with the payment schedule to be set at a later date. Canal+ added that it does not expect future tax audits for subsequent years to lead to any significant additional adjustments and said it would not take any further provisions in its accounts on this issue.
Canal+ had previously indicated it had reached an agreement with French authorities relating to the tax dispute earlier in 2025.
