German TV platform HD+ has expanded the reach of its internet-based TV service by making HD+ Stream available on the Amazon Fire TV Stick, opening the offer to a wider group of households without DTH satellite reception.
From now on, users can access the HD+ Stream app on Amazon’s streaming stick, provided the device runs Fire OS 7 or 8. Subscriptions can be taken out via the HD+ website or as an in-app purchase, after which the service can be used directly on the Fire TV Stick.
HD+ Stream offers live television from more than 100 HD channels alongside access to over 120,000 on-demand programmes from the media libraries of public and commercial broadcasters. Features such as pause and restart are included to enhance viewing flexibility.
The Fire TV Stick launch adds to an already broad device footprint for HD+ Stream. The service is also available on a range of TV sticks and set-top boxes, including waipu.tv, MagentaTV and Google Chromecast, as well as on selected Samsung and Panasonic TV sets via the HD+ IP TV app. Smartphones and tablets are supported too.
Subscribers can stream content in parallel on two devices, with up to five devices registered to an account. Use is also permitted while travelling within the EU. Pricing is set at €9.99 per month, with the first month offered free and subscriptions can be cancelled on a monthly basis.
Existing HD+ satellite customers can extend their service with the HD+ MultiScreen option, which enables access to HD+ Stream alongside their traditional subscription for an additional €3 per month.
HD+, which launched in 2009 as a satellite-based HD television offering on Astra (19.2° East), has gradually expanded into IP delivery in recent years. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Astra satellite operator SES.
