Hungary’s 4iG Group is to exit nationwide terrestrial broadcasting after agreeing to sell 4iG Broadcasting Infrastructure Ltd., its transmission and infrastructure business, to Pro-M Professional Mobile and Network Services Ltd.
The deal transfers Hungary’s national terrestrial radio and television broadcasting network – including 137 sites and 90 company-owned transmission towers – into exclusive state ownership, alongside the operation of the National Air Raid Alert System.
The transaction implements Government Decree 410/2024 (XII. 20.), which requires state-mandated telecoms and broadcasting infrastructure to support public service broadcasting, population alert and emergency communications under unified management.
4iG said the disposal is part of its strategy to streamline its telecommunications infrastructure portfolio and focus on assets more closely aligned with its core business.
4iG Broadcasting Infrastructure provides analogue radio (AM/FM) and digital TV (DVB-T/DVB-T2) services nationwide to public service and commercial broadcasters, as well as regional and local channels. Its assets include the Széchenyi Hill National Microwave Centre, the Solt medium-wave transmission station serving the wider Carpathian Basin, and the Tárnok measurement station, which also acts as Hungary’s monitoring site for the AMOS satellite.
The company operates the National Air Raid Warning System on behalf of regulator NMHH, delivering emergency messages via M1 TV and Kossuth Radio across all TV and radio frequencies. The consolidation of these networks under state-owned Pro-M is intended to improve security, remove parallel capacities and ensure maximum availability for public service and emergency communications.
Following completion, the company will continue to provide free access to the mindigTV terrestrial platform, with its extended premium offer remaining available via One Hungary.
