Eutelsat has renewed its direct-to-home capacity agreement with beIN Media Group, extending the pair’s long-running partnership at the 7/8° West video neighbourhood over the Middle East and North Africa.
Under the new five-year contract, beIN will continue to use Ku-band capacity on the Eutelsat 7 West A and Eutelsat 8 West B satellites to distribute its premium sports and sports news services to millions of homes across the region.
Eutelsat says the 7/8° West neighbourhood now reaches 95% of TV homes in MENA, with more than 66 million TV households and the largest line-up of premium regional and international broadcasters, confirming its status as the leading video neighbourhood in the region.
Aymeric Genty, president of Eutelsat’s Video Business Unit, said the renewed deal would allow the companies to “continue to deliver world-class sports content to millions of viewers with the highest levels of reliability and quality”, underlining the strategic value of 7/8° West.
Israel Esteban, chief technology officer at beIN Media Group, described DTH as the “dominant distribution platform” in MENA and said the new agreement builds on a successful seven-year collaboration, ensuring viewers in 24 countries continue to receive beIN Sports’ coverage of major global sports events via satellite.
