The DVB Project has released a new set of test streams to help manufacturers and service providers verify their implementations of service-prominence signalling in line with EU rules.
The material, available free of charge from the Verification and Validation section of the DVB website, covers a range of configurations designed to support different implementation approaches. It is intended to ensure consistent handling of prominence requirements across DVB-based platforms.
Under the EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), Article 7 requires that services of general interest – including public-value media – are made easy for viewers to find. DVB has updated its Service Information (DVB-SI) specification to support this, adding the Service Prominence Descriptor to the signalling used for service discovery and “now/next” information.
Developed following a DVB Request for Proposals issued in November 2023, the new test streams allow implementers to exercise a variety of signalling scenarios, including service prioritisation and regionalisation, ahead of wider deployment.
