Anime streaming service Crunchyroll has launched on Whale TV-powered smart TVs, expanding the TV OS provider’s line-up with one of the world’s leading dedicated anime platforms.
The app is available from the Whale TV app store, allowing users to add Crunchyroll to their home screen. New users can sign up for a free trial, while existing subscribers can log in and watch via Whale TV-enabled sets.
Crunchyroll, which claims over 17 million paying subscribers worldwide, brings its large anime catalogue to the platform, including titles such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, SPY x FAMILY, One Piece and Attack on Titan.
Lucas Huang, VP content distribution at Whale TV, said the service would give fans “another great way” to watch anime on the big screen as the genre moves from niche to mainstream.
Whale TV describes itself as an independent smart TV operating system, working with more than 400 TV brands and powering over 44 million monthly active TVs globally. The company positions its OS as a neutral layer connecting manufacturers, content providers and advertisers, as it builds out a content offering spanning multiple genres and formats.
