Viaplay Group has appointed Jonas Karlén as executive vice president and CEO Viaplay Group Sweden, giving him overall responsibility for the company’s Swedish operations.
The role has until now been shared by co-CEOs Johan Johansson and Christian Albeck, who will return their focus to group positions.
Johansson continues as EVP and group CFO, while Albeck remains EVP content acquisition, as Viaplay Group pursues its strategy of tightening the business around core markets and locally relevant content.
Karlén brings a long track record from Nordic media and e-commerce, including spells as CEO of Adlibris, Linas Matkasse, Viaplay AB and Viasat AB, alongside senior roles within Viasat and MTG. He previously led Viaplay during its early streaming growth phase.
Viaplay Group president and CEO Jørgen Madsen Lindemann said Karlén combines operational discipline, strategic experience and deep knowledge of the Swedish audience, and will support the group’s focus on local content, strong commercial execution and sustainable growth.
Karlén said he was pleased to return to the company to lead the Swedish organisation, highlighting Viaplay’s position as a Nordic entertainment brand and pointing to plans to further strengthen its streaming service and TV and radio operations in close collaboration with advertisers and distribution partners.
