Proximus has announced the launch of a new Internet Box with Wi-Fi 7 tri-band, claiming to be the first telecom operator in Belgium to offer the technology to its customers.
The new gateway will initially be introduced for Ultra Fiber subscribers.
Wi-Fi 7 tri-band builds on Wi-Fi 6 and 6E by using the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands together, supporting channels up to 320 MHz wide. Proximus says this allows significantly higher speeds, lower latency and more stable connectivity in busy home networks, particularly when multiple users are streaming, gaming or videoconferencing at the same time.
The operator is pairing the wider bandwidth with Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which can combine multiple frequencies simultaneously, and WPA3 Personal security. Installation is handled via an integrated display on the box, removing the need for a separate app or manual.
Proximus is also pitching the new hardware as a greener design. The Internet Box + Wi-Fi 7 is fanless, made from recycled materials and designed for reuse or refurbishment. The company says the overall carbon footprint has been cut by at least 15% compared to the previous generation, with an “economy mode” and future upgrade options planned.
After a pilot phase in November, Ultra Fiber customers will start to be migrated to Wi-Fi 7 tri-band from late December 2025, with existing Ultra Fiber users invited to upgrade in early 2026. Proximus plans to extend availability to its Giga Fiber base in the second half of 2026.
