Leadership change at M-net as Soeren Wendler steps in from 2026

November 21, 2025 10.39 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German fibre-network operator M-net has named Soeren Wendler as its new Managing Director and Spokesperson of the Management Board, effective 1 January 2026.

The seasoned telco executive will jointly lead the company alongside technical managing director Maximilian Oertle.

Wendler will take charge of a wide portfolio including marketing and sales, customer service, strategy and corporate development, finance, HR and organisation, as well as legal and regulatory affairs, corporate communications and governance. He succeeds Nelson Killius, who is stepping down at the end of November after two terms in office.

Wendler co-founded Hamburg-based fibre operator Deutsche GigaNetz in 2020 and served as its Managing Director and Chief Sales Officer for more than five years. Prior to that he spent over eleven years in senior roles at 1&1 Versatel, including as Vice President and authorised signatory, and held management posts at Arcor (now Vodafone), Comparex and nextiraOne (now Dimension Data).

Dr Florian Bieberbach, CEO of Stadtwerke München and Chairman of M-net’s Supervisory Board, described Wendler as “exactly the right choice” to continue the company’s growth trajectory. “With his experience in the telecoms market, entrepreneurial qualities and strong orientation towards sales and digital solutions, he is ideally placed to further develop M-net’s important role in digital connectivity in Munich and beyond,” Bieberbach said. He also thanked outgoing chief executive Killius for steering the company “with strategic vision and operational strength”.

Wendler said he looked forward to accelerating the next phase of fibre rollout in partnership with property owners. “M-net is a regional benchmark for fibre and high-speed internet services, helping to make Munich and other regions in Bavaria true pioneers,” he said. “The next technological leap is fibre expansion right into individual flats and business units. I am excited to take on this role and to work with Maximilian Oertle and the whole team to bring M-net’s mission to life: delighting residential and business customers with first-class products, solutions and service.”

M-net, Bavaria’s largest fibre network operator, serves around 510,000 residential and business connections across Bavaria, the Ulm region and the Main-Kinzig district. Backed by regional utilities including Stadtwerke München and Stadtwerke Augsburg, the company employs around 850 people and reported revenues of €272 million in 2024.
