Viaplay Group has moved a step closer to full ownership of Allente after the Swedish Competition Authority cleared its acquisition of Telenor’s remaining 50% stake in the Nordic pay-TV operator.
The authority’s decision confirms it will not intervene in the deal, concluding the transaction is not expected to significantly impede effective competition in Sweden.
Viaplay agreed in July to acquire Telenor’s shareholding for SEK 1.1 billion, financed through existing cash and new loan facilities, taking Allente fully in-house as part of its refocused “core” Nordic strategy.
Allente, created from the merger of Canal Digital and Viasat in 2020, serves DTH, IPTV and OTT customers across Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, and also offers broadband in Sweden.
Clearance in Sweden follows earlier approvals in Denmark and Norway and confirmation from Sweden’s Inspectorate of Strategic Products that the deal raised no FDI concerns. With all key regulatory hurdles now addressed, Viaplay has reiterated its expectation of closing the transaction in Q4 2025, bringing Allente’s scale, cash flows and customer base fully onto its balance sheet.
