Royal Television Society chief executive Theresa Wise is to retire in 2026, bringing to a close almost 13 years at the helm of the UK TV organisation.
Wise, who joined the RTS in 2013, confirmed her decision today, saying it was the “right moment” to step back from full-time executive roles as the organisation heads towards its centenary in 2027. She highlighted the growth of the Society’s education and training activity, a strengthened bursary scheme, and a significantly expanded events slate across its national and regional centres.
RTS chair Jane Turton praised Wise’s “huge and lasting contribution”, citing initiatives such as the RTS Mini MBA, continued innovation in conferences and awards, and closer engagement with members and patrons.
The RTS has begun the process of appointing a new chief executive. Wise will remain in post through 2025 and step down next year to enable an orderly handover.
