Ziggo is upgrading its Next and Next Mini platforms with AI-powered voice control, promising more natural content discovery for TV and streaming from 14 November.
The Netherlands’ largest cable operator says customers will be able to use everyday language to search across genres, characters, themes and personal preferences without learning specific commands – with examples ranging from “show me only DC superheroes” to “find a movie starring Kate Winslet” or “I want to watch a British crime series”. The enhancement also extends to core functions such as recording, pausing and channel zapping via voice.
Positioned as the first Dutch telecom operator to combine voice control with advanced AI search, Ziggo says there’s strong demand for the feature: more than 40% of its TV base already use voice and the company processed over 25 million voice searches in Q3 alone. Results are presented in a refreshed UI with clearer, aggregated overviews, and the feature is enabled automatically for all customers with a TV package on Next or Next Mini and the standard voice remote, with no extra installation required.
The launch is the latest move by Ziggo to defend its aggregated TV environment against app-centric viewing by reducing friction in discovery and aligning with broader industry trends towards AI-driven personalisation.
