The EBU has awarded LiveU a five-year contract to deliver round-the-clock live news over IP for its Eurovision News Exchange, shifting the previously satellite-only workflow towards a hybrid, cloud-centric model.
LiveU’s Matrix cloud IP distribution platform will form the backbone of the network, connecting more than 60 public service newsrooms in Europe and worldwide. The deployment underpins broadcasters’ confidence in LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) with added SRT support, following a competitive evaluation.
The project includes a phased rollout of LiveU Ingest for cloud recording and shared content workflows, now in pilot with 15 members. At member sites, 125 LiveU Transceivers are being integrated, with Dual Active (active/active) redundancy running parallel cloud and on-prem streams to ensure uninterrupted service and complement backup satellite distribution. A multi-region, multi-vendor cloud design, proactive monitoring and on-demand channel scaling are built in for major events.
The EBU plans to complete the rollout in January 2026 and set the new IP network live on 1 January 2026, with a gradual phase-out of satellite contribution. Matrix has already supported major news events during the initial deployment.
“This marks a decisive step as public service media embrace cloud-based IP workflows for faster, more sustainable and cost-efficient live news delivery,” said Emilio San Pedro, Head of Eurovision News Exchange at the EBU. Roy Hasson, VP Global SaaS and Solution Sales at LiveU, added the win reflects Matrix’s mission-critical reliability, scalability and value-for-money for primary distribution.
