VodafoneZiggo has signed a three-year deal with Ericsson to upgrade and expand its mobile network across the Netherlands, including the rollout of newly acquired 3.5GHz spectrum.
The programme covers around 3,000 sites and includes infrastructure upgrades and performance management on VodafoneZiggo’s all-Ericsson footprint. Deployment starts this year and runs through the next three.
Ericsson will supply its ultralight AIR 3255 TDD Massive MIMO radio, which the vendor says can cut energy consumption by up to 63% and is 58% lighter than its predecessor at 12kg. Additional measures will target lower power use and faster installation without sacrificing performance.
VodafoneZiggo CTO Thomas Helbo said the agreement “marks another milestone” in delivering “world-class connectivity” and improving capacity and efficiency. Ericsson’s Sudipta Ghosh added the project will bring “state-of-the-art network technology and services” while supporting sustainability goals.
