BBC Studios is expanding its out-of-home portfolio at sea with three premium linear channels for cruise ships, delivered exclusively via maritime partner Anuvu.
BBC Earth, BBC Lifestyle and BritBox are joining BBC HD on Anuvu’s MTN-TV service, initially across 116 ships from 25 cruise lines worldwide. The move builds on BBC HD, which has been available to cruise passengers since 2017.
BBC HD’s schedule is also being strengthened with live rights additions including the Guinness Six Nations, EFL Championship and the Solheim Cup, alongside existing events such as the FA Cup, US Open golf and the Carabao Cup.
BritBox will be offered as a scheduled channel for the first time in maritime, with a curated line-up that includes Blue Lights, Death Valley, Father Brown, The Office and Silent Witness. BBC Earth promises landmark natural history such as Planet Earth III, while BBC Lifestyle spans food, travel, home, fashion and wellness. Selected titles from each channel will be available on catch-up.
Zina Neophytou, SVP, BBC Studios Out Of Home, said the launch “showcases the very best of British storytelling” and broadens choice for passengers. Travis Peterson, VP Product, Cruise and Ferry at Anuvu, called the expansion a natural next step following the performance of BBC HD.
Anuvu says it holds more than 80% market share and serves over 300 ships globally.
