W-Sport, the 24/7 channel dedicated to women’s sport, has secured distribution on Vodafone Portugal, adding to its European footprint and expanding access in the Portuguese market.
The channel offers live events and original programming built around elite women’s teams, leagues and athletes.
The launch comes ahead of a busy weekend of live football on W-Sport, with fixtures scheduled across Europe on Friday 31 October, Saturday 1 November and Sunday 2 November, spanning Germany, England, Italy and Sweden. The channel says it typically carries up to 10 live matches per week, including coverage from Italy’s Serie A Women (plus Coppa Italia and Supercoppa) and Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, alongside selected events in netball, basketball, athletics, equestrian, surfing and triathlon.
W-Sport’s European carriage now includes operators in France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Turkey and Lithuania, with additional distribution across Asia, MENA and more than 30 Sub-Saharan African territories (including via Canal+).
Founded by former Setanta and Premier Sports executive Michael O’Rourke and ex-Fox Sports SVP Kelly Butler, W-Sport continues to target broader international reach as interest and audiences for women’s competitions grow.
