ATSC says it has strengthened its international footprint after advancing seven ATSC-related documents at recent ITU-R Study Group 6 meetings, with three approved for publication and a total of 23 ATSC contributions now adopted or recognised by ITU-R.
Newly approved items include Report BT.2526-1 on field trials of mobile multimedia broadcasting, while revisions to Report BT.2343-10 on UHDTV over terrestrial networks were accepted pending further input. The scope of the Rapporteur Group on ATSC 3.0 has also been expanded to develop new documents.
President Madeleine Noland said the activity underlines that ATSC 3.0 is being positioned as an international technology, adaptable to regulators’ and broadcasters’ needs.
In the Americas, ATSC highlighted work at the 45th CITEL PCC.II meeting in Salvador, Brazil, where Noland chairs the Working Group on Broadcasting. Brazil showcased elements of its ATSC 3.0-based TV 3.0 (DTV+) roadmap, while the North American Broadcasters Association briefed delegates on a Calgary pilot exploring smart-city use cases over NextGen TV infrastructure in partnership with local and federal bodies and ATSC.
ATSC flagged further PCC.II engagements in 2026 (Dominica and Colombia) and 2027 (Ottawa), with potential demonstrations around Direct-to-Mobile and civic services. The organisation also pointed to continued momentum in South Korea and to Brazil’s recent decree on TV frequency allocations as catalysts for regional deployment.
